Both Bern and Geneva can be visited all year round but there are some months when it is best to visit in my eyes and these are June, September, and December.

In the months of June and September, the weather in Switzerland is fabulous. You will have glorious sunshine most days and be able to access the mountains on day trips, swim in the lakes and rivers, plus more.

Also, there are fewer crowds in June and September and accommodation pricing is more affordable.

In December, both Geneva and Bern come alive with Christmas. The markets are to die for, the towns are filled with lights and decorations, and you could not find a more festive spot. You can also dash off for a day of skiing too.

Bern vs Geneva: Which Is Better?

Choosing between Bern and Geneva is not easy and ideally one would simply visit them both.

Bern is known for being slower-paced with a rich history, charming architecture, and a laid-back atmosphere. The city’s compact size makes it easy to explore on foot, and its attractions, such as the Zytglogge and the Bear Park, provide a unique glimpse into Swiss culture and heritage.
