Who is Globi in Switzerland?

Globi is a popular Swiss cartoon character, which is very much the Swiss equivalent to Mickey Mouse or Asterix. Robert Lips created Globi in 1932 for the department store Globus for use as a character in advertising. He first appeared in a comic strip entitled “Der Globi” and became so popular that various other books were written featuring Globi.

If you come to Switzerland you will see Globi all over the place in the German-speaking part of the country. He is used to warn traffic of children playing, as part of playground themes, train themes and a whole lot more.

Globi was going to be called Kimbukku, but his final name was the local Basel dialect for the department store Globus – Globi.

Globi is depicted as a blue parrot wearing checkered pants, a beret, and a walking cane. Although there have been many variations over the years.

He is known for being quite adventurous, curious, and helpful. This is perhaps one of the reasons he is so popular with parents, as he portrays many great characteristics. Globi also travels the world and learns about various cultures, professions, and scientific phenomena, thus providing education through a fun book.

How Old is Globi?

Globi is 91 years old, as he was officially created back in 1932. He certainly looks as young now as he was when he was created!

How many Globi books are there?

There are at least 80 different Globi books, depending on how you count them. Globi has 55 classics, as well as a variety of audiobooks, cook books and translations. You can find all the books on the Globi Website.
