Laundry Options Around Interlaken, Lucerne & Zermatt

Travel makes your clothes dirty. There is no way to avoid it.

And maybe once a week, you are going to want to do some laundry while on the road (or rail) in Switzerland.

The problem is, doing laundry in Switzerland comes with a whole range of challenges:

  • Hotel laundry services cost a fortune
  • Not everyone is in an Airbnb with a laundry
  • There are almost no laundromats

So, I am going to assume you want to find a reasonably priced laundry option while in the most popular places in Switzerland and map those out below for you.

But before I do that, let me explain

Why Are There No Laundromats In Switzerland?

The reason laundromats are few and far between in Switzerland is that every apartment block comes with a shared laundry.

So, even though I live with five other families in my building, we all share the same laundry and either have an allocated slot(s) per week or work it out between us. The landlord buys the laundry machine and dryer and we pay for the electricity.

Newer places tend to have their own these days, but still, almost nobody needs a laundromat.

That is how life in organised Switzerland works.

Where Can You Do Laundry?

I have searched high and low to find the available options in the most common spots you guys tend to congregate, but bear in mind that getting this information can be tough.

So, please double-check it before relying on it on the day. Some of these disappear, close or move. And they don’t let me know when they do it :>

Zurich

There is one public laundry that is convenient to reach if you are in the old town area. It’s right in the Niederdorfstrasse area.

Interlaken (Wash & Go)

Right in the heart of Interlaken is the self-service option with coin or tap and pay. Just make sure you read the instructions and don’t start a load after 11pm, as they shut at midnight.

Although this is more convenient, if you want more affordable try the second option a bit further walk away in Matten (5 CHF per wash/dry instead of 14 and 8 CHF here).
