Interlaken’s Hidden Gems – Activities You Don’t Want To Miss

Heading to the Interlaken Region and looking for some unique or unusual things to do?

Forget the typical tourist traps. After you have read this post, you can craft your own chocolate bars, kayak on crystal-clear Alpine lakes, and hurtle down mountain slopes on a toboggan – all before lunch.

Yes, I have done the research and am ready to share these hidden gems in the Interlaken area!

1. Make Your Own Chocolate Souvenir

Step into the fun world of chocolate making at the centrally located Funky Chocolate Club in Interlaken. Don an apron and chef’s hat and prepare your very own chocolate creation in a one-of-a-kind workshop.

Under the guidance of our expert chocolatiers, you’ll learn the art of tempering chocolate to achieve that perfect snap and glossy finish. Master the delicate dance of melting and pouring, and discover the tricks to creating flawless molded treats.

Why not take home a unique souvenir for your family and friends, or eat it for dessert in your hotel room under the covers that night?

2. Wood Carving Your Own Swiss Cow

You may not have heard of Trauffer, but they are one of the most renowned wooden toy creators in Switzerland. Their wooden toy cows are renowned throughout Switzerland and beyond.

And with this workshop in Brienz, you can make your own too.

Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, these hands-on workshops allow you to create your own Swiss souvenir while learning about the cultural significance of woodcarving in the area.

Imagine yourself carving your own cute Swiss cow, surrounded by the inspiring Alpine landscape and one of the most stunning lakes in Switzerland.

3. Kayaking On Lake Brienz

See Lake Brienz from a unique perspective, right on the water. I own a couple of SUP boards and have been stunned by the experience of being on the lakes in Switzerland. It is a unique experience and perspective that is well worth your time.

In this case, it is a guided paddle on the still waters of Lake Brienz with a Kayaking professional!

4. Within Shouting Distance Of A Mountain Ibex

Sure, you can pop into the Alpine Wildlife Park to see them. After all, it is just above the Harder Kulm station, and I recommend it. But seeing Ibex in the wild is an experience all of it’s own.

One way to do it is to take the stunning gondola up the Niederhorn to get not only epic views of the Lake below, but also experience Swiss wildlife in the wild!

We'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it later!

Although you could hire a wildlife guide, it is possible to just hike around the ridge area and spot them yourself.

5. A Little Adventure on Heimwehfluh

Need to keep the kids busy on an afternoon in Interlaken? Heimwehfluh has a fun and unique, historical (1906) funicular close to town that will whisk you to the top in minutes.

And once you are up there, you can zoom back down again on a fun mountain coaster through the forests above Interlaken.

6. Hang Gliding Over The Lakes Around Interlaken

Everyone goes paragliding around Interlaken. And it’s become a bit of a commodity, in my opinion, with people landing in Interlaken literally every 5 minutes.

So, instead of just doing what everyone else does, why not try hang gliding with a pro!

You can choose to go over either Lake Thun or Lake Brienz, but either way, it will be unforgettable.
