Traveling through Zurich Airport is about to get a whole lot faster.
If you have spent any time recently juggling plastic bins, laptops, and tiny bottles of shampoo, you know the drill all too well.
But the era of the “security shuffle” is finally coming to an end.
Zurich is currently rolling out state-of-the-art CT scanners that promise to turn the most stressful part of your trip into a breeze.
The Biggest Perk?
The biggest perk for travelers is the “hands-off” approach to packing. I
n lanes equipped with these new scanners, you no longer have to dig for your electronics or fish out your liquids.
Your laptop, tablet, and toiletry kit stay tucked safely inside your carry-on. Y
ou simply place your bag in the bin and walk through.
It sounds like a small change, but it removes the primary bottleneck that causes those long airport queues.
The Magic of CT Technology

Want To Save This For Later?
The centerpiece of this upgrade is Computed Tomography (CT) technology.
Unlike the flat, 2D X-rays of the past, these new scanners create high-definition 3D images of your luggage.
Security officers can now rotate the view of your bag on their screens, looking behind items and into every corner without ever needing you to unzip a zipper.
It is smarter, more secure, and infinitely more efficient.
A Summer of Transformation
While the first wave of scanners is already live on level G0, the airport is currently working around the clock to upgrade all 26 security lanes.
They are currently in a transition phase, with the full rollout expected to be complete by summer 2026.
This means that for a few more months, your experience might vary depending on which lane you are assigned to.
Pro Tips for the Transition
Because the airport is still undergoing a major facelift, there are two things to keep in mind.
First, stick to the 100ml liquid rule for a little longer; if you are assigned to an older lane, you will still need to follow the traditional limits.
Second, enjoy the surprise. If you find yourself in one of the new high-tech lanes, take a breath and enjoy the fact that your bag stays closed and your stress stays low.
