Bern Ticket: Everything You Need To Know

bern old town and the aare river

The Bern Ticket is something of a Bern City Pass that you get from your accommodation upon arrival in this federal city.

It provides you with free travel on all of the public transport in the UNESCO preserved capital of Switzerland and also in some of the surrounding area.

There are a few things you need to know about the Bern Ticket, so I have collected all of the most useful information below.

What Is Included In The Bern Ticket?

Public Transport

The Bern Ticket includes all public transport in zones 100 and 110 of Bern. In essence, this means you can travel freely around the city of Bern on buses, trams or trains, and even a little further afield to places like Gurten.

To be sure that your journey is included in the Bern Ticket you should check this map of the Bern transport zones before you go.

Funiculars & Elevators

There are even a few extras in the Bern Ticket such as rides on many funiculars and elevators. The following are the three that are included in the ticket>

We'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it later!

  • The Marzili funicular that goes from the Aare River up to the Bern Parliament (Google Maps)
  • The Gurten funicular to the top of the Gurten (Google Maps)
  • The elevator to the platform behind the Bern Cathedral from the Aare River (Google Maps).

How To Get Your Bern Ticket

The Bern Ticket is available to anyone who books accommodation in Bern such as a hotel or registered Airbnb. Not all accommodation will provide it, so be sure to check directly with yours before arrival.

If you do get a Bern Ticket with your accommodation, you can get it when you arrive, or download the app before arrival to make your life easier.

Should you need to travel by public transport on your day of arrival in Bern, the Bern Ticket is still valid even though you don’t have it physically yet. You just need to show any ticket inspectors a copy of your confirmed hotel booking should they ask.

Bern Ticket & Airbnb

Not all accommodations have access to the Bern Ticket for their guests. However, if your Airbnb hosts are registered as a lodging establishment with the local government and collect the appropriate taxes then they have access to it.

So, if you are booking with Airbnb while staying in Bern, be sure to ask your host if you can get the Bern Ticket.
