The Best Hotels in Basel, Switzerland (Convenient Locations)

best hotels basel

Basel is a lovely city in northwestern Switzerland right on the border with France and Germany. It is rather beautiful sitting on the Rhine River and is home to around 160,000 people making it the third most populated Swiss city.

Basel’s history dates back thousands of years to the time of ancient humans, and it makes sense considering its location on the Rhine River.

Today it is a very creative city filled with artists and the like and is known for having more museums per person than any other city in Europe. It is also home to the world’s oldest public art gallery, now the Kunstmuseum.

It is safe to say that you will have a lovely time when visiting Basel but where should you stay while you are there? That is what we are here to find out!

Join me as I run through the best hotels in Basel, Switzerland so that you can find the perfect place to stay on your upcoming trip to this lovely city.

Hotel Victoria

Hotel Victoria is one of the best Basel hotels to stay in and this is not just because it is a lovely hotel but also thanks to its location in the city center.

Everything Basel has to offer such as the town hall and Basel Zoo along with the train station is just a short walk away which makes exploring incredibly convenient.

The hotel has a lovely decor that is both classical and modern. Think marble floors and chandeliers. The rooms and suites are equally as lovely and are extremely comfortable plus are kitted out with all the modern touches you need, some even have a great view of the city.

The hotel is also home to the stylish restaurant, La Terrasse, and it is well worth having dinner here as the chefs make some incredible Swiss and international dishes. You can also hang out at the bar and order a snack if you are in need of something light.

To top it all off, the hotel also has a fitness center, business center, meeting rooms and lots more for you to use during your stay.

GAIA Hotel Basel is right next door to Hotel Victoria we just looked at above, meaning you will be staying in an excellent location in the city center if you pick either one of them. Again, everything is within walking distance including the Basel Minster, the Kunstmuseum Basel, and the Rhine River.

This is a 4-star hotel and one of the few Basel hotels that are sustainable, hence the name Gaia, and is fully organic, plus it is a family run. I love finding little gems to stay at like this, it is nice to see people taking an active approach.

All the rooms at this hotel are rather modern with a minimalist decor while being very spacious and comfortable. Some of them have views of Basel’s old town or the Rhine River, so be sure to book one of these.

The hotel serves up a mean organic and locally sourced breakfast buffet each morning that you do not want to miss. After a long day, you can hit the full-service spa for a range of treatments or relax in the sauna or steam room.

There is a fitness center onsite too along with a business center and meeting facilities too.

Overall, this is one of the top Basel hotels in my opinion and it is where I would choose to stay when visiting Basel.
