Every city has that one street in its historic center that’s home to all the top sights and is iconic. In Interlaken, that’s Höheweg, a long promenade stretching from east to west Interlaken. It’s lined with cafes, shops, restaurants, and landmarks, with sprawling views of Eiger, Jungfrau, and Monch.
Many of the best landmarks and attractions in Interlaken are along Höheweg, making it a must-stop for all tourists in the Swiss city. So, let’s get into all the top sights along Höheweg Street in the heart of Interlaken!

What to See and Do in Höheweg
Whether you’ve got one or three days in Interlaken, Höheweg is a street in town that you cannot miss. It’s the central area of Interlaken, connecting the Interlaken Ost and Interlaken West train stations. And it boasts quite a few interesting sights and reasons why you should walk down the promenade even if it’s out of the way.
Watch The Paragliders Landing in the Park

Interlaken is one of the best destinations for adventure sports in Switzerland. Paragliding is especially popular in the town, thanks to the tall summits in the area that serve as departure points. Most flights take off from Beatenberg or Schynigge Platte, and all the paragliders land at Hohematte Park.
Paragliding is available in Interlaken in every season, so no matter when you visit, you should see paragliders in the sky if you just look up. When walking down Hoheweg Boulevard, stop by the park for 10-15 minutes and you might just witness a paraglider landing. It’s an entirely different way of people-watching, characteristic of Interlaken.
If you are interested in going paragliding instead of just watching others do it, head to Hoheweg 125 Interlaken to arrange a flight.
See The Vibrant Flowers in Front of The Casino

Take a quick detour to the Interlaken Casino during your stroll down Hoheweg promenade. The casino building is grand, with a beautifully landscaped park in front.
The highlight of the casino grounds is the flower clock, reminiscent of the one in Geneva’s English Garden. It’s often adorned with vibrant flowers, and you can see even more pretty flowers throughout the casino park.
Don’t miss out on the fountain before the casino entrance either. It’s worth noting that you won’t see any flowers on winter visits, but other attractions at the park make it a worthy detour even in that season.
Stop By The Yash Chopra Statue
Yash Chopra is an Indian filmmaker who often featured Switzerland in his movies. He has a statue in Interlaken because his films are directly responsible for the rise of Indian tourists in Switzerland. The statue is in the park before the Interlaken Casino, so if you stop by the place to see the flowers, you can also see the statue.
The bronze statue has been a staple Interlaken landmark since 2011, and it’s a must-stop on any proper tour of the town. Especially since it’s so close to Hoheweg that it shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes to stop by the Casino Park, see all the sights, and then get back to exploring.
Admire The Victoria Hotel on The Opposite Side

Want To Save This For Later?
Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa is the most famous building in Interlaken. The hotel has been around for 150 years, and it’s known for seamlessly blending historic and modern architecture. It’s not just the best hotel and spa in Interlaken, it’s a historic landmark worth anyone’s time.
The five-star hotel dominates the old town center of Interlaken, just opposite Hohematte Park. It’s a building you cannot miss during walks down the main promenade, and for the best experience, I recommend visiting the hotel restaurant with outdoor seating for some spectacular views.
Eat at Some Restaurants With Fabulous Views
Interlaken’s main town promenade is lined with shops and restaurants. Some of the best locales in the town are at Hoheweg, and a stroll down the street is the perfect opportunity to stop for lunch, dinner, or even just a snack.
I highly recommend La Terrasse restaurant in the Victoria Hotel. The food is exquisite and their outdoor tables offer magnificent views of the towering summits.
Shop for Souvenirs And Gifts
As I said earlier, Hoheweg is lined with shops, and many of those are souvenir shops. Some of the best places for souvenir shopping in Interlaken are on this street, from the Top of Europe Flagship Store to Wyss Souvenirs on the other end of the street.
Many other souvenir shops are at Hoheweg, and I think it’s worth it to go inside each one to check out the prices and available souvenirs. From traditional Swiss cuckoo clocks to classic souvenirs like magnets, you’ll find whatever you want at the shops along this street.
Be Taken Aback by Breathtaking Views of The Jungfrau

Jungfrau, Eiger, and Monch are the holy trinity of the Bernese Alps. The tall summits are easily seen from virtually anywhere in Interlaken, and the panoramic sight will often make you stop in your tracks.
So, don’t hesitate to look at the iconic mountains when strutting down Hoheweg. And be sure to also look at Harder Kulm on the opposite side; it’s not quite as tall, but it is still a mesmerizing panoramic sight.
Experience The Views During a Horse Carriage Ride
Admiring the sights while riding in a horse-drawn carriage is an excellent way of experiencing Interlaken. This is a seasonal activity and it’s usually available only between April and October. If you’re in town during those months, consider booking a horse carriage ride.
My favorite one is a culinary tour of Interlaken and Wildesrwil that takes approximately two hours. It includes strutting down Hoheweg in a carriage, a welcome glass of champagne, and a main course prepared by a renowned chef. The price of this experience starts at 160 CHF per person, without tourist tax.
Is Höheweg worth visiting?
Yes, Höheweg is absolutely worth visiting. After all, it’s the main promenade in Interlaken, one you cannot miss if you’re casually strolling around the town. With fabulous restaurants, excellent shops, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains, Höheweg is the place to be in Interlaken.
