A hotel on Lake Lucerne is the ideal choice for spoiling yourself while you are in Switzerland.
Some hotels are so close to the lake that you can almost jump in! And on top of that, they have stunning views of Mount Pilatus while still just minutes from the historic old town of Lucerne.
I was walking along the lakeside promenade last weekend and the hotels that line the shores are stunning, historic and a once in a lifetime experience.
So, which is the right Lake Lucerne hotel for you?
Let’s start with some of the best luxury hotels in Lucerne…
Table of Contents
Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern
It’s hard to beat the Hotel Schweizerhof in Lucerne regarding location. Sitting right on the shores of Lake Lucerne, yet also right on the edge of the Old Town. So, you can relax in your room with mind-blowing views of Pilatus and the lake while still just minutes from all of the attractions in Lucerne.
The hotel is a family-owned 5-star affair, so you can expect only the best in rooms and facilities. Each room is individually styled using a mix of modern and historic Swiss touches. There is a gym with views of the Old Town, a Finnish sauna, and two restaurants including one with a panoramic terrace for when the warmer weather is in town!
Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern
The Mandarin Oriental Palace is a landmark on Lake Lucerne that has been in the city since 1906. It boasts 36 beautifully designed rooms and suites and offers a wide range of dining experiences, including French, Mediterranean, Japanese, and International cuisine.
There is also a panoramic 360-degree terrace for those long, balmy nights in Lucerne where you can watch the sunset and the alpenglow over the nearby Swiss Alps.
Hotel Beau Séjour Lucerne
A less formal and far less pricey option is the Hotel Beau Séjour, a 15-minute walk from the Old Town. It is located over the road from the lake in a quiet area of town.
The building, like most in Lucerne, is historic, and the rooms all have wooden floors with very simple but comfortable fittings.
There is also a cute terrace where you can see the lake, which is one of the best parts of Lucerne if you ask me!

Grand Hotel National Luzern
Another 150-year-old luxury option right in the heart of Lucerne is the Grand Hotel National. Oh, and it sits right on the shores of Lake Lucerne too, with no road between you and the water, which is rare!
With 41 decadent old-world suites that have seen the famous and infamous of the world over the decades, there is not much to dislike about this hotel. The 3.5 meter ceilings and marble floors add the icing on the cake.
There are four different restaurants in the building, complemented by a bar and cafe, each with only the best chefs, waiters and ingredients to make your stay on Lake Lucerne one you won’t forget.
Grand Hotel Europe
A little further down the road is the four-star Grand Hotel Europe. It offers excellent facilities, including a restaurant and bar, lake views, and an outside terrace.
The rooms range from more standard doubles to spacious suites and the decoration is a blend of modern and historic, which is befitting of such an old building.
Overall, it is not at the level of the other 5-star Lucerne hotels on this list, but for the price you pay, the location is perfect, along with the price!
Hermitage Hotel, Lake Lucerne
A few kilometers outside the city of Lucerne is the modern 4-star Hermitage Hotel right on the shores of Lake Lucerne.
What I loved about this hotel when I stayed there is the huge lawn and terrace they have available to guests. So, it is not only a hotel but also a bit of a vacation.
With views over the lake right onto Mount Pilatus at sunset, what else do you want? And there is a boat dock right outside if you want to take a trip around the lake, too. The hotel features a few different restaurants and bars, as well as a fitness room. And, with reasonable 4-star prices, you get what you pay for at this lakeside hotel in Lucerne.
