When it comes to jaw dropping gondola rides, Switzerland knows how to deliver!

From the highest train station in Europe to standing on top of the gondola while it whisks to the top, there are endless options for those who love adventure.

But when I saw this new gondola Grimentz, I wondered if this one is the craziest?

The fairy tale streets of Grimentz

…. a mind-blowing day in Switzerland.

Nestled in a valley next door to Zermat, Grimentz is a hidden gem that few tourists get to experience.

With its fabled dark wood chalets and stunning flower-covered window sills, is one of the most picturesque villages in the country (you can see my list of twenty more here).

First, you have to change your shoes and put on the so-called “Finken”, which are essentially Swiss slippers.

Why? Because the floor is made of glass, All of it. Every single inch from door to wall and front to back.

As the gondola shoots you from the base station to the top of the Espace Weisshorn at 2700m (8900m) at a speed of 36 km/h (22 mph) you will feel a little disoriented.

All around you is glass. And on top of that, you can step out into the fresh air on the viewing balcony and take in the views from all angles!

Why The Slippers?

Alpine Top floor – all glass, so you have to wear some slippers!

As you can imagine, the floor, made entirely of glass, can get a little bit dirty!

So, the Grimentz team decided that anyone entering the gondolas has to wear the Finken to keep it clean.

And once you see the trees flying past your feet, you will be glad they did!
