A few people have asked me what kind of knife you are allowed to bring into Switzerland when visiting.

What are the Knife Laws in Switzerland?

The Swiss law currently forbids the importing or carrying of any of the following kinds of knives:

  • Butterfly knives
  • Switchblade or Flick knife – ie. Knives that can be opened automatically using one hand
  • Daggers with a Symmetrical Blade
  • Throwing Knives

The law states that pocket Swiss Army Knives are allowed to be carried or imported.

So, to be on the safe side with both the police and customs in Switzerland only ever carry something like a Swiss Army Knife.
