Vaduz Castle History
The Vaduz Castle is believed to date back to the 12th century. It began its life as a fortress and it was later added to with living quarters later in 1287. However, it was only mentioned in written form in 1322.
Ownership of the Vaduz Castle changed hands in 1712 to the Princely Family when the whole countship came into the family’s possession. However, it seems not much was done with the castle until centuries later when it was completely renovated between 1904 and 1920.
Prince Franz Josef II then extended the castle in the early 1930s so that it could be lived in, and he and his family moved in in 1939. They have been living there ever since.
