If you are looking for a great rainy day activity for your kids, then the Zurich Tram Museum might just hit the mark. This lesser-known of the Zurich museums is filled with lots of old Zurich trams, tram-related signs and machines, some fun train and tram toys and some models to keep the kids amused.
We went there with your godson last year, and he still keeps asking to go back.

Highlights Of The Tram Museum

The Tram Museum is divided into two floors, with the old Zurich trams scattered throughout the garage on the ground floor.
You can enter the trams, and explore them to your heart’s content as they are all open and available to everyone.
Kids seem to love big moving machinery, especially young boys. So, its no surprise that kids love to explore the life-sized historic trams and pretend they are driving or a conductor.
But the real highlights on this floor are towards the rear.

Drive A Tram
One of the smaller trams is actually on rails and using a large wheel at the front, anyone can propel the tram back and forth along the tracks.
Want To Save This For Later?
Our godson seemed to love being in charge and driving his own tram. We had to pull him off it to give the other kids a turn it was so addictive. It is surprising that anyone can actually move a tram with such a small wheel, so it’s a really fun experience for anyone, not just the kids.
Look Underneath A Tram

There is even a small tunnel under a fixed tram at the rear of the Zurich Tram Musem where you can walk underneath. A little like a mechanic would work under your car in a professional workshop if you have ever seen such a thing.
Before you enter you have to put on hard hats, which makes it even more fun for the kids. Our godson kept his one for about an hour after leaving this area he enjoyed it so much!
Play Wooden Trains

This one is a bit random, given it is a tram museum and not a train museum, but given how much fun the kids have with it, who can complain? Right next to the moving tram is a table with all sorts of wooden trains (from Thomas and Friends) and tracks, along with accompanying toys. Many children seem to spend hours here after exploring the museum, our godson included. It was hard to pull him away from such a mammoth collection.
Landscape Models & Drawings
Upstairs there is a fun area filled with landscapes and cities with tramas running around on tracks. There is a huge variety of models and terrain, and they are quite mesmerizing, especially for children.

There are also drawers filled with old engineering drawings, which are also fascinating for adults and children alike!
