How to Reach Blausee
Blausee is located about 15 km south of Interlaken close to Kandersteg and just a stone’s throw away from the famous Oeschinensee. The easiest way to reach Blausee is by car but you will have to pay for parking when you get there.
The lake is well signposted and easy to find and it takes about 2 hours from any major Swiss city.
You can also take public transport – first, grab a train to Kandersteg and then hop on a bus to Blausee.
Ticket Prices & Opening Hours
Blausee is open all year round, from 8 am to 6 pm. The ticket prices vary depending on the season and the activities you want to participate in.
During the high season, from June to September, the ticket prices are as follows:
- Adults: CHF 9.50
- Children (6-16 years): CHF 5.50
- Children (0-6 years): Free
There are also special rates for groups and families. If you plan to visit Blausee during the low season, from October to May, the ticket prices are slightly cheaper.
Keep in mind that some activities, such as boating and diving, have an additional fee.

Hiking & Cycling
Blausee is surrounded by a network of hiking and cycling trails that offer stunning views of the Swiss Alps.
You can hike or cycle through the forests and meadows, and discover the hidden gems of the region. The trails are well-signposted and suitable for all levels of fitness.
You can rent a bike at the lake or bring your own.
Boating
If you want to explore the lake from a different perspective, you can rent a rowboat or a pedal boat at the lake.
The boats have a glass bottom so you can see the mesmerizing color of the water along with the trout swimming around and the bottom features too.
The boats are available for rent during the summer months, from June to September. You can paddle around the lake and admire the crystal clear water and the surrounding nature.
Be aware that the lake is not that big and you will row around it rather quickly so be sure to take your time.
Nature Walks
Blausee is surrounded by a stunning forest filled with giant trees and interesting rock formations such as the rock room and the wolf gorge. It is a very peaceful and relaxing nature walk and you will see true untouched alpine nature.
Diving
Blausee Lake is one of the most popular diving destinations in Switzerland. The lake’s clear water and its depths of up to 20 meters make it an ideal spot for diving enthusiasts.
You can explore the underwater world of Blausee and discover the hidden treasures of the lake which include the organic trout farmed there, a statue, tree trunks, rocks, and more.
Diving is only available in the winter and you will need to book in advance.
Playground
Blausee also has a fun playground for children, with swings, slides, and climbing frames that you will find along the paths that take you through the forest.

Best Time to Visit Blausee
Blausee can be visited year-round but it does get very busy at times, which I personally would rather avoid.
Early to mid-June is a great time to visit Blausee and Switzerland in general as kids are still at school and it will be a lot less busy. September is also a good time for these reasons and the weather is still lovely too.
If you prefer a quieter atmosphere and beautiful autumn colors, the months of October and November are a great time to visit. The trees around the lake turn golden and red, creating a stunning backdrop for nature walks and hikes.
The winter months, from December to February, are perfect for winter sports enthusiasts. The surrounding mountains offer great skiing and snowboarding opportunities, and the lake freezes over, creating a magical winter wonderland.
The Legend of Blausee
Blausee has a fascinating legend that adds to its charm and mystery. According to the legend, a beautiful damsel used to live near the lake. One day, while she was walking around the lake, she saw a handsome shepherd boy who was passing by.
“On clear moonlit nights, the two of them often went to the Alpine lake surrounded by ancient fir trees, on which the boy had put a boat to pass the time. Then they dreamed away the happy hours of their young lives on the silvery waters. Then the boy fell over a rock face to his death.”
The damsel was so heartbroken that she returned to the lake and cried into it every night. It is said here tears from her deep blue eyes are what turned the lake so blue.
Is Blausee Worth Visiting?
Blausee is certainly worth visiting as its crystal clear waters and stunning surrounding beauty are a sight that is hard to beat.
But, be aware that the lake is very small and gets very busy. Arrive very early if you want to see it for yourself.
It is, however, lots of fun to enjoy the hiking and biking trails, boating, spa, restaurants, and a great thing to do in Kandersteg.
