10 Swiss Restaurants with Jaw-Dropping Views (#4 Rotates While You Eat)

You may have heard that Switzerland has some incredible restaurants with jaw-dropping mountain views.

Not only are they spectacularly located, but most of them are accessible without much or any hiking.

From revolving alpine restaurants to cozy chalets, these spots offer unforgettable vistas paired with delicious Swiss cuisine.

They are perfect for those of you seeking scenic meals in the Interlaken and Lucerne regions, Zermatt, and beyond.

Chez Vrony, Zermatt

At 2,100 meters, accessible by ski lift or shuttle in Zermatt, this family-run restaurant serves raclette and rösti with stunning Matterhorn views.

The sunny terrace is a crowd favorite, praised for its cozy vibe and unbeatable alpine scenery. Perfect for a relaxed meal with iconic vistas.

Riffelhaus 1853, Gornergrat

Reached by Gornergrat Railway at 2,582 meters, this historic chalet offers Matterhorn and Riffelsee lake vistas. Enjoy fondue with glacier panoramas in a charming setting.

Everyone who visits will enjoy its unique mix of history and scenic dining, making it a top pick for Zermatt visitors.

Restaurant Berggasthaus First, Grindelwald

First Berg Restaurant
First Berg Restaurant in Grindelwald

At 2,167 meters, this restaurant boasts breathtaking Eiger and Jungfrau region views right from the top of the infamous Grindelwald First mountain.

Enjoy Swiss dishes like bratwurst or fondue on the scenic terrace. Easily accessible with a stunning alpine backdrop, it’s a gem in the Interlaken area.

Piz Gloria, Schilthorn

Perched at 2,970 meters, this revolving restaurant, made famous by the James Bond movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” is a great place for lunch or brunch. I spent a few hours up here last July and the two rotations (see sped-up video) of the restaurant were out of this world.

It is easily reachable by cable car from Mürren, in the Lauterbrunnen valley, and offers unique 360-degree views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.

It can be combined in a complete day out in Lauterbrunnen, taking in the Schilthorn, Birg Thrill Walk, Murren, and the waterfalls.

Drehrestaurant Stanserhorn – CabriO Stanserhorn, Stans

Reachable by both a historic funicular and the open-air CabriO cable car from Stans (near Lucerne) this is a jaw-dropping experience in more ways than one!

At 1,898 meters, this (also) revolving restaurant offers 360-degree views of Lake Lucerne, ten surrounding lakes, and the Interlaken Alps in the distance.

It’s a great place to have a bite to eat or something more substantial so you can spend more time soaking up the views.

⚠️ Oh, and did I mention that the Stanserhorn is FREE with the Swiss Travel Pass?

Restaurant Fronalpstock, Stoos

Fronalpstock Switzerland

Stoos and Fronalpstock above it are famous for it’s panoramic ridge hike, which is indeed stunning. However, it is not for everyone, as it is no walk in the park!

Instead, you can head directly to Fronalpstock via the jaw-droppingly steep Stoos funicular for a shorter walk to the viewpoint and soak up the stunning views over the nearby mountains and Lake Lucerne.

Stoos Funicular

It has the usual Swiss fare, so don’t expect Michelin meals, but it’s the perfect spot for a drink or lunch, especially when the sun is shining outside!

Restaurant Grindelwaldblick, Kleine Scheidegg

Restaurant Grindelwaldblick at the end of the Mannlichen Panorama Hike

One of my best kept secrets, that I always tell my clients about is this typical Swiss mountain restaurant right near the end of the Männlichen Panorama hike.

Rösti with a view at Grindelwaldblick

They have all the usual suspects you will find on a Swiss menu, but I recommend indulging in a Rösti, which is hashbrown style shredded potato, lovingly cooked in a pound of butter until it’s brown, then covered with your favorite heart-attack inducing ingredients – bacon, cheese or egg. Your choice!

Harder Kulm Panorama Restaurant, Interlaken

Harder Kulm above Interlaken

Reached by a short, but famous funicular from Interlaken. Harder Kulm is a destination in and of itself.

The restaurant is only sitting at 1,322 meters, but has epic views of Lakes Thun and Brienz, as well as the distant the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau we all know and love.

I recommend this restaurant to many of my clients, not only for its typical Swiss cuisine but also because they have a unique sunrise option, one of the few places you can come to see the sun go down and still stay on the mountain after 5pm!

Restaurant Aspen, Grindelwald

Located at 1,800 meters, accessible by ski lift or shuttle from Grindelwald, this cozy restaurant offers stunning views of the Wetterhorn and Eiger. Enjoy Swiss dishes like fondue or grilled specialties in a relaxed alpine setting. Highly rated for its warm atmosphere, it’s a favorite near Interlaken.
