The world of travel never stands still, and it definitely keeps you on your toes.
So, if you are coming to Switzerland and Europe this year, here are some important updates you need to know…
Zurich Airport Introduces New Scanners – You Will Love Them

Starting today (Friday, June 26, 2026), passengers departing from Zurich Airport can officially ditch those annoying plastic baggies.
Thanks to a complete upgrade to 3D CT scanners across all 26 security lanes, you can now carry liquid containers up to 2 liters in your hand baggage.
Even better? Pretty much everything gets to stay in your bags!
So, faster and easier security, just in time for the summer crush at the airport.
⚠️ The catch: This only applies to local departing passengers. Transfer security areas haven’t been upgraded yet (meaning the 100ml rule still applies to transiting travelers), and double-walled bottles (like thermoses) must go through empty.
EES Chaos: Summer Border Warnings

Want To Save This For Later?
I warned about this a few weeks ago, but wait times seem to be reaching a peak as summer arrives.
The EU’s digital Entry/Exit System (EES) is facing its first major peak-season test since becoming fully operational in April.
Aviation bodies (like ACI Europe) are warning of potential travel chaos and longer queues at Schengen (ie EU) borders. Because passport stamps are replaced by biometric checks (fingerprints and facial scans) for non-EU travelers, processing times have jumped.
Border authorities have “built-in flexibility” to temporarily pause the digital checks if lines get entirely out of hand, but you should definitely pack extra patience.
👉👉 MY PRO TIP:
- Don’t bank on any specific activity on the day you arrive that is too close to your arrival time – e.g., if you arrive at 8-9 am, only book things in the afternoon.
- Head to the airport at least 3 hours before international flights. Especially if you are heading to the USA, where there are extra checks at the gate.
ETIAS is Next up
The automated pre-travel authorization system (ETIAS) for visa-exempt non-EU travelers is still on track for the final quarter of 2026. Applications aren’t open yet, so beware of fraudulent websites trying to sell early approvals.
Safe travels this summer, enjoy the lighter packing rules in Zurich, but give yourself plenty of time at immigration! 🧳⏳
And don’t forget to share this with a friend or travel companion so they know what is happening too!
