Wispile is a charming mountain located in the Gstaad region in Switzerland. Known for its enchanting beauty and panoramic views, it is a popular destination for both winter sports enthusiasts and summer hikers. It’s particularly family-friendly, with a range of huge activities suitable for kids as well.

Location

Wispile is situated in the southwestern part of Switzerland, in the Bernese Oberland region. It’s right at the top of a gondola just south of Gstaad.

Getting There

Gstaad is the nearest town to Wispile and is well-connected with major Swiss cities like Zurich and Geneva by train. You have to change trains in Zweisimmen.

From Gstaad, you can take a local bus (180) to the base station of the Wispile gondola, which will then take you up to the mountain. In the summer, the area is also accessible via hiking trails.

Highlights

Wispile is an all-year-round destination. In winter, it’s a snow paradise offering skiing, snowboarding, and sledging. The winter hiking trail and the sledge run from Wispile to Gstaad are particularly popular. During summer, the mountain transforms into a hiker’s paradise with numerous hiking and mountain biking trails. One of the highlights is the “Lauenensee” round trip hike, a trail that leads to this beautiful mountain lake.

Views

From the summit of Wispile, you get a panoramic view of the surrounding Alps, the Saanenland Valley, and the village of Gstaad. On a clear day, you can see far into the snow-capped peaks, providing a truly unforgettable sight.

Attractions

Apart from winter sports and hiking, Wispile offers several other attractions. One of these is the Wispile Gourmet-Hike, a culinary trail that combines hiking with tasting local delicacies. In addition, for families, there’s the “Munggstutz” dwarf adventure trail, as well as a big playground with a slide, climbing garden, and swings right next to the gondola station.
