Immersing yourself in the world of chocolate at the Cailler Chocolate Factory is a dream come true for chocolate lovers and something you have to do when visiting Switzerland.
Located in Broc, just outside the charming village of Gruyeres, this renowned chocolate factory offers an unforgettable experience that combines history, craftsmanship, and indulgence in your favorite dessert!
The crazy thing about Callier is that it has been making premium Swiss chocolate since 1819, which is over two centuries if you can believe that. They are actually the oldest chocolate brand still in existence in Switzerland. Of course, the factory itself was founded a little later in 1898 and has since been taken over by Nestlé. But still, this is indeed the epicenter of Swiss chocolate.
You can visit the factory on your own, or with a chocolate tour from Geneva. Here is what to expect when visiting this Swiss Chocolate factory

Visiting The Cailler Chocolate Factory

From the moment you step foot inside, you are transported into the world of chocolate, surrounded by that telltale smell. Probably one of your favorites…chocolate!
Whether you’re a devoted chocolate connoisseur or simply appreciate the artistry and history of chocolate-making, the Cailler Chocolate Factory is something you will never forget. At least for a while!
The Factory Museum Visit
During your visit to the Cailler Museum, you get to see it all.
First, you are taken on a historical tour of chocolate’s origins through a multimedia animation. It continues with a deeper history of the Cailler family as well as a number of other greats in the industry. If you have also been to the Lindt Factory Museum, some of it might be familiar as they have a similar area.
Next up is a fun exploration of the manufacturing process. Normally you just get to stand and watch, but here you get to see and touch the raw materials that go into chocolate. It’s interesting to see what it really takes to make world-class Swiss chocolate.
And they dive even deeper explaining more about the suppliers and producers of their ingredients. For example, the milk comes from nearby Gruyeres cows. If you know the Gruyeres cheese, you know is quality! They also have a small-scale chocolate production line on show, to really bring it all home.
No visit to the Maison Cailler is complete without a few samples, right? And of course, they dish those up at the end. And after having your fill of chocolate and pralines for the day, they will lead you right to their shop, so be careful how much you buy! Although, on second thoughts, maybe a few souvenirs are in order for family and friends back home.
Other Activities
The Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory also offers chocolate workshops where you can learn how to make your own delicious chocolate using only the best raw materials, of course. And, with a master chocolatier at your side, how can anything possibly go wrong?
Another fun activity they have is an Escape Room for 5 people that immersed in the Cailler world and built inside a vintage wagon. Or, if you want something for the whole family or a bigger group Cailler has built an outdoor experience that takes you on a local tour of Broc.
