Deciding between the Swiss Travel Pass and the Interrail Pass is not as easy as it seems. There are quite some differences in what is covered as well as the cost.
The Main Differences Between The Interrail Pass & Swiss Travel Pass
The Interrail Pass is only available to European citizens living outside of Switzerland. It is cheaper than the Swiss Travel Pass but does not offer as many free travel journeys or discounts.

The Swiss Travel Pass includes free entry into over 500 museums as well as 50% discount on the majority of mountain railways and cable cars. Interrail passes do include a lesser 25% discount on such mountain trips, but not in all cases. There are also some mountain trips included in the Swiss Travel Pass like Rigi, Pilatus and Stanserhorn. Also, you can travel on boats and public transport in cities, which is not available on Interrail.
In the end, you have to decide what you are going to do on your journey through Switzerland to see which is most worth the money for you.
But is it also cheaper as I need an Interrail Global Pass to arrive in Switzerland? That’s what I’m curious about. What is cheaper to travel from the Netherlands to Switzerland and travel in Switzerland, travel to the mountains and return back to the Netherlands? Is the Swiss Pass still the cheapest option? I understand that once you’re in Switzerland the Swiss Pass is the best option. But we need to get to Switzerland first.
