What is the best pass for the Bernese Oberland?
For those traveling in the Bernese Oberland, there are three options: the Bernese Oberland Pass, the Jungfrau Travel Pass, and the Swiss Travel Pass.
The best option will depend on how far you are traveling, whether you have the Swiss Travel Pass, and what you want to see while you are there. I have tried to break it down so you can get an idea of what is covered in each and whether you really need that particular pass or pass combination.
The Swiss Travel Pass is perfect for longer trips between major destinations in Switzerland and includes over 500 museums. And, you get 50% off almost all mountain railways and cable cars in the Bernese Oberland. The only exception is the Jungfraujoch, where you get 33% off the journey price.

The Jungfrau Travel Pass is more focused on the Jungfrau region with free travel on all trains, buses and boats, but only within that region (Interlaken, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen and on the lakes). Travel to most mountain destinations are included such as Grindelwald First and Eigergletscher, Schynigge Platte, Harder Kulm, Männlichen, Mürren, Wengen, Kleine Scheidegg. And you get a huge discount on the Jungfraujoch, which varies depending on the season.
The Bernese Oberland Pass covers a wider range of destinations stretching all the way to Lucerne and Bern, ad down to Brig in Wallis. It also offers free travel on the majority of mountains and big discounts on those not covered. There is also a wide range of partners offering discounts to most of the attractions in the region.
Swiss Travel Pass vs Bernese Oberland Pass
The Swiss Travel Pass covers travel all over Switzerland, while the Bernese Oberland Pass only covers travel in the Bernese Oberland region.
On top of that, the Bernese Oberland Pass covers the majority of mountain excursions around Interlaken, except for the Jungfraujoch and Schilthorn. The Swiss Pass in comparison only gets you discounts on mountain excursions, although they are often 50% off.
