Getting To The Stanserhorn
I recommend making a day of it and getting the boat from Lucerne to Stansstad, at least in one direction. Taking a boat trip on Lake Lucerne is a highlight of any visit to Lucerne. That way, you can kill two birds with one trip!

When returning to Lucerne, it is faster to take the train from Stans directly to Lucerne.
